The Shaw Alien is the "offspring" of Elizabeth Shaw, who was unknowingly impregnated by the infected Charlie Holloway. Original it was not much bigger than a Facehugger which it shares some characteristics with, it later grows to be massive and in a panic, Shaw releases it when the Engineer comes to kill her. It grabs the engineer and after a brief struggle, it subdues him and proceeds to impregnate him.
